In August 2011, after more than 21 years, I've retired from the University of California, Berkeley, and moved permanently to Albuquerque, New Mexico, but I will be Professor Emeritus of Anthropology, University of California, Berkeley. I'll miss the students and my colleagues at Berkeley, but it was time to move on and devote more time to Southwest obsidian studies, mountain bike racing, and my family. For awhile I return to Berkeley every month to take care of campus business.
The Archaeological XRF Laboratory will move as well, and all submitted samples after July 25 should be mailed to this secure, insured address:
M. Steven Shackley, Ph.D.
Archaeological XRF Laboratory
8100 Wyoming Blvd NE, Suite M4-158
Albuquerque, NM 87113-1946
USPS, UPS, and FedEx can all be sent to this address.
The new phone number is: 510-393-3931; fax = 505-858-1601 (be sure to put
my name on faxes). For the foreseeable future I'll be in Berkeley the last
two or three weeks of each month, and I can analyze samples using the identical NSF Quant'X still
on campus. Call or better e-mail.
I also have been appointed Adjunct Professor in the Department of Anthropology, University of New Mexico, but I will only be on campus once a week or less most semesters. I plan on continuing to teach my Field Practice in Archaeological Petrology Field School through UNM during most summers, and teach the XRF lab course at UNM.
All lab services will continue:
My shackley@berkeley.edu e-mail address will remain permanently, and the lab web site will remain at www.swxrflab.net
Thanks to all of you through the years, and I look forward to continuing our relationship both intellectually and personally.
Steve Shackley
